Two Fort Hood generals were nominated for promotion, the Defense Department announced Wednesday.

The president nominated Brig. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr. and Brig. Gen. James M. Richardson to the rank of major general. The promotions need approval from the Senate.

James serves as deputy commander of maneuver for the 1st Cavalry Division. He was named deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and deputy commander for leader, development and education at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., in February, but no timeline for his departure has been set.

Richardson is the deputy commander of III Corps and Fort Hood, and scheduled to deploy with the unit to Afghanistan this year.

Brig. Gen. Stephen M. Twitty, who is scheduled to arrive at Fort Hood later this year as the senior commander of III Corps and Fort Hood, also was nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. He serves as deputy chief of staff of communications for Headquarters, International Security Assistance Force, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
