FORT HOOD — The installation will close House Creek Bridge on West Range Road at 7 a.m. today to ensure public safety after engineers found major structural issues with the bridge, post officials said Tuesday.

Tactical military vehicles will continue to use the low-water crossing for track and wheeled vehicles and the one-way elevated bridge for wheeled vehicles.

All other traffic — commercial, privately owned vehicles and nontactical military vehicles — will be diverted to Tank Destroyer Boulevard and Farm-to-Market 116 and then to Gatesville or to Elijah Road.

Directorate of Public Works officials expect the bridge to be closed for up to a year in order to fund, contract and complete the necessary repairs.
