LAMPASAS — The city is gearing up for its May election, and there are four seats up for grabs this year: the mayor’s seat, Place 1, Place 2 and Place 6.
As of Thursday, current Lampasas Mayor Christian Toups has not filed for re-election, but mayor pro tem and current Place 3 Council Member Misti Talbert has filed to run for mayor. If Toups decides not to file for re-election, no election will be held for the position of mayor and Talbert would receive the position unopposed, according to city secretary Christina Marez. The council would then appoint someone to Talbert’s vacated seat to finish the remainder of her term.
For Place 1 incumbent Chris Harrison is the only to have filed as of Thursday.
For Place 2 incumbent Robert McCauley is the only filer so far.
For Place 6 incumbent TJ Monroe is the only candidate to file for that position.
The deadline to file for the city election is today.
