Killeen residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste for free from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Copperas Cove Transfer Station, 2605 S. Highway 116.

Acceptable materials include petroleum products, corrosives, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive liquids and fluorescent lamps.

A complete list of acceptable materials is available at www.killeentexas.gov/hhw.

Prohibited materials include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, compressed glass cylinders and commercial tires.

Residents should carefully load hazardous waste into their vehicles, securing any fragile or awkward containers. Waste should be in original containers with original labels, if possible. Leaking containers should be placed in a spill-proof container or bag.

No materials will be accepted from business, industry or agricultural operations.

This event is a joint effort between the Copperas Cove and the Central Texas Council of Governments.
