Killeen and Harker Heights residents can safely dispose of household chemicals from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen Special Events Center, 3301 S. W.S. Young Drive.

There is no charge for disposal of chemicals, but participants must provide proof of address such as a driver’s license or current utility bill.

Acceptable materials include poisonous, corrosive, flammable and toxic substances. Paint, mercury, fluorescent bulbs and alkaline and rechargeable batteries also will be accepted.

Residents may drop off electronics such as computers, televisions and small appliances. They also may properly dispose of passenger vehicle tires for a fee of $2 per tire and larger tires for varying fees.

Prohibited materials include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material and compressed glass cylinders.
