Killeen has been named a Playful City USA for the ninth consecutive year and a Tree City USA for the 10th consecutive year, according to a news release.

Killeen was honored with the playful city designation for its efforts to increase the quantity and quality of playgrounds, park acreage per capita and youth served.

Killeen is one of 258 cities in the country to earn the designation.

A full list of the city’s parks amenities can be viewed at killeentexas.gov/parks.

The Arbor Day Foundation also honored Killeen for meeting the program’s requirements: a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation, the release states.
