Two similar threats Wednesday — one in Harker Heights and the other in Killeen — turned out to be false alarms.

Between 6 and 8 p.m. the Harker Heights and Killeen police departments received separate threatening phone calls, prompting both agencies to send their police and SWAT teams to lock down neighborhoods.

Killeen police blocked off Robinett Road, between Stan Schlueter Loop and Bade Drive.

Neither agency could confirm whether the threats were related, but both had the same outcome.

“We had a call; we checked it out and it turned out to be nothing,” KPD spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.

“It was a hoax,” said Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson, HHPD spokesman.

“He made a lot of different demands but once (police) made contact with the owners of the residence, it turned out to be a hoax.”

Calling in a false report is a serious crime, Wilson said.
