The Killeen Fire Marshall’s office is investigating a Saturday evening fire at the Modern Inn as arson.

Firefighters responded to the motel, in the 1000 block of Root Avenue, at 7:16 p.m., officials said. Upon arrival, they saw fire coming from a room on the top floor. The occupant was safely evacuated, and the firefighters conducted a sweep for precautionary measures.

The room received fire damage and two adjacent rooms received smoke damage, a news release from the Killeen Police Department stated.

No other information was available Saturday night.
