The city of Killeen is closing a series of roads Wednesday for water main rehabilitation.

The roads that will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. include:

Veterans Memorial Boulevard, westbound outside lane from College Street to Gray Street.

Park Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G.

Second Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G.

Fourth Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G.

The closure is for water main rehabilitation, which requires open cut excavation of the road to access and replace the water lines.

The project segments are part of a larger north-side rehabilitation project that will improve water infrastructure along Veterans Memorial Boulevard from College Street to 38th Street.

The 2012 Water and Wastewater Master Plan called for the $1.2 million investment, which was funded through the 2013 Water and Sewer Bond.

When completed, 11,535 feet of aged water infrastructure will be rehabilitated, increasing the water quality and available fire flow and reducing the number of water main breaks and service interruptions.

Completion is anticipated by summer.

Traffic will be diverted around the roads.
