A 35-year-old Killeen resident is dead after officers found him slumped over in the driver’s seat of a car, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Killeen Police Department responded to a report of a man with a gun at 9:46 p.m. Saturday in the 3400 block of Stan Schlueter Loop in Killeen.
The caller said the man was wearing all black and was possibly armed with a shotgun, according to a KPD news release. An officer arrived in the area and located a silver Honda Accord with no lights and stopped in the roadway in the 4600 block of Lonesome Dove Drive.
The back driver’s side window was shattered and the man inside was wounded, the release stated. The officers began and continued CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, where he died from his injuries.
The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Officers searched the area of the incident and located a suspicious male in the 3200 block of Gus Drive. After an investigation, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.
The suspect’s name is being withheld pending further investigation and formal charges.
