A 22-year-old Fort Hood soldier died Wednesday night after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on West Trimmier Road.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the man dead at 8:07 p.m. He did not order an autopsy. His identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said the motorcyclist was northbound on Trimmier Road about 7:30 p.m. traveling at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle hit a truck turning left into the parking lot of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church from southbound Trimmier Road.

The man was not wearing a helmet, Smith said.

That pickup turned in front of the motorcycle. Speeding or not, the motorcycle didn't have a chance.
