Central Texas College will host its annual Math Appreciation Day from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Anderson Campus Center (building 156). The free, public event is part of the Mathematical Association of America’s celebration of Math Awareness Month and features a week full of activities and games in which students can win prizes.

The guest speaker is Daniel King, math professor at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. He will present “Win, Lose or Draw: The Mathematics of Game Shows,” which explores the mathematical ideas underlying various elements of popular games shows, new and old.

King will act as the emcee in a game-show setting to demonstrate how mathematical minds are applied to some well-known game shows.
