Six months after a dead newborn was found in the bathroom of the Killeen Walmart, police have exhausted all leads in their investigation.

The newborn female, who became known as Baby Jane Doe, was found dead Dec. 7 in the women’s restroom of the Walmart on Lowes Boulevard.

Since then, police have been unable to find any links to the girl’s mother.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said investigators hands are tied by the nature of the incident.

Even though the child was left at the height of Christmas shopping season, no one witnessed it. Additionally, no one has come forward with information about the girl’s mother, in spite of repeated calls to the public for assistance.

“There was no evidence there, and unfortunately, we had nothing to go on it,” Smith said. “It’s sad.”

Following the discovery of the child, several community businesses rallied to hold a funeral. She was laid to rest Jan. 17 in a donated plot at Killeen City Cemetery.
