GATESVILLE — A human skull found in the Leon River on May 5 may have been stolen during an April 27 theft in Hamilton County, according to a news release from the Gatesville Police Department.

Two people found the skull floating in the Leon River in the 100 block of East Leon Street and took it to the police department, the release stated.

An investigation revealed that the skull may have been stolen and later thrown in the river. The skull was turned over to Hamilton County investigators last week, according to the release.
