A soldier arrested in a shooting on West Fort Hood is no longer at Bell County Jail.
Sgt. Brett Marvin Wessell, 26, was released into the custody of an Army officer, said Lt. Donnie Adams, Bell County Sheriff’s Department.
Fort Hood spokesman Tyler Broadway said no formal charges have been filed, but referred questions about Wessel’s release from jail to U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, which could not be reached for comment.
On Sunday, authorities apprehended Wessel, a soldier with 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, in connection with the shooting death of retired Sgt. Ryan F. Dickinson, a Fort Hood release stated.
Kate Dickinson told the Long Island Newsday, her brother was killed after Wessel allegedly argued with him, returned to the party with a weapon and shot Dickinson.
She said she learned from family members in Texas that Wessel has three young children. Ryan Dickinson had two children, and lived north of Austin, the news website reported.
Neither Wessel nor Dickinson lived at the residence where the shooting took place, Broadway said.
The last time a murder occurred on post was Sept. 26, 2010.
