Fort Hood officials Wednesday released the name of a soldier who died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident Sunday.

Spc. Joseph Edward McDonald, 23, was pronounced dead by doctors at 7:59 a.m. Monday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

McDonald, of Crete, Ill., entered the military in April 2010 as a combat engineer. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 36th Engineer Brigade, since August 2012.

McDonald deployed to Afghanistan from February 2011 to February 2012.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.
