A former migrant worker, (born and raised in Crystal City) is Wednesday’s guest speaker for the Temple College Democrats.

District 104 state Rep. Roberto R. Alonzo of Dallas was the first Hispanic elected president of the student government at the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. Today, Alonzo is a member of the state’s Higher Education Committee.

Alonzo will discuss current issues in the Legislature, particularly those surrounding education, and starting a local chapter of Mexican-American Democrats.

The Temple College Democrats meeting starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Temple College, Academic Center, in room 3415.

The public is invited.
