A Fort Hood soldier from Copperas Cove accused of building numerous pipe bombs waived his right to a preliminary hearing scheduled Thursday in federal court.

Spc. Jason Alan Garthwaite, 24, was due in Waco for a hearing on a charge of possession of an unregistered destructive device, which can carry a 10-year prison sentence.

Court records show Garthwaite waived his right to the hearing, a relatively common occurrence.

No further hearings were scheduled.

Police arrested Garthwaite in Copperas Cove on Sept. 11 after learning he had the materials and had built at least one bomb described as an “anti-personnel device,” court documents stated. He faces state and federal charges for possessing alleged bomb components found in his residence.

Operation WakeUp

Why is this story being buried? A soldier was caught making pipe bombs on the eve of September 11th. He lived a block from an elementary school. Why is there not more coverage of this story? Why has the media decided to ignore this and only report the barest of details?
