This morning, a motorcycle escort will accompany trucks filled with over 7,000 Christmas wreaths from the Killeen Special Events Center, 3301 S. W.S. Young Drive, to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195.

The escort will leave at 8:40 a.m. Family members of veterans and volunteers will begin laying the wreaths on the graves at the cemetery at 10 a.m.

Singer-songwriter Darden Smith of Austin will be the featured vocalist during the wreath-laying, according to Jean Shine, president of the Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Smith will sing “Angel Flight,” which was written about a Texas National Guardsman.

Those who wish to participate in the wreath-laying should plan to park at the Texas A&M University-Central Texas campus on State Highway 201.

Buses will operate between 8 a.m. and noon, transporting volunteers between the university and the cemetery.
