A 6-year-old girl drowned Saturday night in Killeen.

Police responded at 7:36 p.m. to a call from an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Illinois Avenue. Once paramedics arrived, they determined the girl was not breathing and continued CPR.

The girl was airlifted to McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White and pronounced dead at 8:36 p.m., Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.

The drowning was considered accidental, she said. “All the kids were in the pool and the adults (were) around and (it was) just a freak deal they weren’t able to get (her) out in time.”

Police did not release the girl’s name.
