COPPERAS COVE — Nearly 1,000 people lined up today to receive 596 turkeys and 14,000 pounds of food for their Thanksgiving meals courtesy of the Refuge Corporation's 19th annual meal giveaway.

More than 50 volunteers and Refuge staff members manning seven stations helped the giveaway run like clockwork. Joseph Solomon, the director of the Refuge Corporation, began the benefit nearly two decades ago.
