LAMPASAS — Lampasas County commissioners on Monday awarded a contract for asphalt and emulsion materials that will be used to improve roadways and bridges throughout the county.

County Auditor Chris Munn recommended the contract go to Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions Inc., and the commissioners unanimously approved his recommendation. One of two submitted material bids met the county’s proposal guidelines.

Ergon was awarded the contract last year, and Munn said this year’s bid came in at almost the same as last year’s, with a rate of $2.53 per SS1 gallon.

A combined effort among commissioners will determine where the materials will be used, as minimum delivery requirements are 5,000 gallons and it doesn’t take long to go through one tanker, County Judge Wayne Boultinghouse said

Commissioners also approved the mandatory racial profiling report presented to them by Sheriff David Whitis.

“In a nutshell, it gives a report of our traffic stops by race, ethnicity, etc.,” Whitis said.

The court approved the racial profiling exemption and proof of peace officer licensure submitted by new Precinct 2 and Precinct 3 County Constable Misty Maldonado, who completed about 2,012 hours of training and continuing education.

“(Maldonado) won the election in November and took office Jan. 1,” Boultinghouse said. “She is an elected official, and this was her first time around submitting a report as a constable.”

Boultinghouse said the countywide burn ban is currently not in effect.

“It’s off right now, and we’ll keep it off for another two weeks until March 1,” he said.
