Fire Department schedules summer camp

The Copperas Cove Fire Department is looking for young men and women entering the eighth grade for an annual Fire Department Mentoring Industrious Minds & Educating Students Camp.

The camp is a weeklong, job-related mentoring program coordinated by the Copperas Cove Fire Department.

Participants learn career-related information and the relationship between school academics and the "working world."

The program identifies math and science applications to the fire service as a career, hoping to spark students' interest in academics.

Children learn how to extinguish a fire using an extinguisher, provide basic first aid, and save themselves and others in a smoke-filled building. Campers also participate in several "hands on" projects such as hose streams, breathing apparatus and search and rescue drills.

Students who participate will be a part of the camp from July 30 to Aug. 3.

There is no fee, but enrollment is limited. Applications are available at the Central Fire Station, 415 S. Main.

For more information, call (254) 547-2514.
