Altrusa International of Central Texas sponsored a Share Your Story-Share Your Dream writing contest in conjunction with Killeen's Take 190 West Arts Festival in March.

The contest was open to all fifth-grade students in the Killeen Independent School District, including home schools, private schools and church schools. The students were required to write a story and illustrate it in the medium of their choice.

More than 250 students from Killeen elementary schools participated. There were two categories, individual effort and collaborative effort. Prizes were awarded to first, second and third place in each category plus two honorable mention awards.

The first-place winners received Nooks, and they were given gift baskets donated by Barnes and Noble of Harker Heights. The second- and third-place winners received gift cards.
