Motorcycle clubs and elementary schools might seem like odd pairs, but the Killeen chapter of a club with roots to World War II is forming a partnership with a Killeen elementary school.

In an initial outreach, members of the women's auxiliary of the local Boozefighters Motorcycle Club delivered backpacks, binders, pencil boxes and other school supplies to Fowler Elementary School.

Karmen Ingraffia, a kindergarten teacher at West Ward Elementary School and part of the Boozettes, said Hollywood imaging aside, the biking community is actually a caring group.

After school May 20, a group of the men and women parked their motorcycles in front of the school and the women delivered the supplies to Fowler counselor Christy Fairey.

The group maintains a club house a few blocks from Fowler, so Ingraffia said the idea formed to do a community service project to benefit the group's neighbor.

Club members raised $320 and bought out a local store of its school supplies.

Ingraffia and Fairey, said it would be a benefit for the school to have a full closet of supplies when school starts again in August. Supplies will go to students in need.

Motorcycle club members plan to conduct another supply drive for the school in the fall.

The Boozefighters and Boozettes have roots going back to the end of World War II, when the organization formed in 1946.

Club members only ride motorcycles made in countries aligned with the Allied powers from that war.
