Copperas Cove Independent School District's board is scheduled to vote on hiring a firm to conduct the annual state-mandated financial audit for 2011-12 at tonight's meeting.
At a board workshop Monday, district staffers recommended a different firm from the one used last year. "About every five years, you try to bring in new auditors," said Brenda Essenburg, finance director for the school district. "You want a pair of fresh eyes, so you don't get complacent."
Last year the district used Killeen-based firm Lott, Vernon and Company. This year, district staffers suggested Pattillo, Brown and Hill LLP, a Waco-based firm.
In a four-firm cost comparison report, the Pattillo firm's estimated cost at $48,900 was the most expensive but lower than the actual cost of last year's audit, which was $51,900.
If approved, the audit firm's contract would last one year, with an option to renew for a second year.
The board is also scheduled to set the district's calendar for the 2012-13 school year. If approved, the first day of school will be Aug. 27, instead of Aug. 22, and the last day is set for June 7. The calendar has 180 student days and 187 teacher days.
Superintendent Rose Cameron said the district received 51 e-mail responses for public input about the calendar, and the suggestions were taken into consideration during its development.
