Coryell County Jailer Richard Sammuel Linn was arrested Thursday evening for allegedly having improper sexual activity with an inmate.

Coryell County Sheriff Johnny Burks said the department received word of the incidents from another inmate. The county investigator immediately conducted an investigation of the allegations, and a warrant was issued for Linn's arrest.

Linn is charged with two counts of violation of civil rights of a person in custody.

Burks said this is the only incident involving Linn and an inmate as far as he knows and won't know more unless someone else comes forward.

"We stress any involvement with an inmate will cause termination," Burks said.

Linn worked for the jail since November 2007 and resigned his employment following his arrest.

The charge falls under Texas Penal Code Section 39.04, subsection 2, which is a state felony charge that carries a jail sentence of not less than 180 days or more than two years of confinement in a state jail facility and a fine of not more than $10,000 can be imposed if convicted.

According to Cpl. Jared Harris, Linn was arraigned by the magistrate for two $10,000 bonds, and he made bond on Friday. A court date has not been set.
