COPPERAS COVE — A man remained in the Coryell County Jail on Thursday after being arrested for allegedly attacking his mother with a machete early Saturday.

Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Travis Lee Holt on Saturday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Price set his bond at $50,000.

Police were dispatched to a house in the 2200 block of Phyllis Drive about 1 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest complaint.

Officers were advised a suspect, Holt, was intoxicated and swinging a machete. The victim, Holt's mother, had locked herself in the bathroom. The victim stated that Holt was threatening to kill her with the machete while she was lying in bed, according to the arrest affidavit.

Holt was located sitting on the living room couch. The house was noted to be "in disarray," stated the report, and a dresser in the bedroom appeared to have been chopped several times with a sharp object.

The victim said Holt stood over her with the machete, threatening harm, then began to "chop up furniture" in the house, at which point she locked herself in the bathroom to avoid being hurt.

According to the report, officers were not able to locate the machete in or around the house, and Holt said he'd left the house for a short time before officers arrived.

Price also arraigned:

Billy Waylon Simons, on July 27, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than one gram. Price set his bond at $8,000.

Jeremy Allen Schmidtman on July 28 on a charge of burglary of a building. Price set his bond at $10,000.
