A Copperas Cove man drove his vehicle off the road and into a telephone pole and then a tree in the 200 block of Robertson Avenue, police said.

Judge William Price arraigned Hoang Van Cai on a charge of driving while intoxicated, third or more, and set his bond at $10,000.

Hoang remained in the Coryell County Jail on Thursday evening.

Police were dispatched to the scene Tuesday where Hoang was allegedly driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban.

The vehicle left the roadway, struck a telephone pole and a tree.

Police reports said officers smelled alcohol on Hoang’s breath and his eyes were glassy.

Police administered a field sobriety test, and he performed poorly, reports said.

Hoang was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and sent to Metroplex Hospital for a blood specimen.

Hoang has two previous DWI convictions, police said.
