CORYELL COUNTY - A Copperas Cove man was indicted by a grand jury earlier this week on four charges in connection with a police chase and the theft of 67 guns.

Michael Paul Dunlap, 29, was indicted Tuesday on two charges of theft, more than $20,000 but less than $150,0000, a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and a charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

He is in Coryell County Jail in lieu of a $455,000 bail, stated the facility's website.

Dunlap took a Copperas Cove police officer on a high-speed chase Feb. 20 that started at the intersection of Avenue D and U.S. Highway 190 in Copperas Cove and ended on State Highway 195 near Youngsport, according to arrest complaints. A stolen 2007 red Dodge Ram 1500 was damaged during the chase when police deployed road spikes that caused the vehicle to crash.

After the incident, police arrested Dunlap who also tried to flee on foot, stated the complaints. In the vehicle, police found several items belonging to at least three Copperas Cove businesses, including 67 guns, riffles and shotguns; two safes; a cash register; and several tobacco products.
