Robert Gorton, a Copperas Cove resident, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.

He was charged with three counts of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact and Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, which was later reduced to Injury to a Child. He confessed on Aug. 31, according to a Coryell County Crime Victims' Office release.

The charges were for the sexual assault of the 12-year-old friend of Gorton's daughter, who spent the night at Gorton's home in 2006.

Gorton requested that his ruling be suspended for one month to get his family settled in another state, but District Judge Phillip

Zeigler sentenced Gorton on one charge of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact, placing Gorton on 10 years deferred adjudication.

Gorton has waived his right to an appeal.
