COPPERAS COVE — Residents of Road District 1, which includes properties on Kenney Drive and Nathan Drive in Sun Set Estates north of Cove, will meet with Coryell County commissioners Monday to discuss a strategy for paving the two roads.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation office at 210 S. First St. in Cove.

After unsuccessful efforts to get the subdivision developer to pave the roads, residents of the neighborhood voted last fall to create the county’s first road district to borrow $100,000 to lay 1.8 miles of pavement, then levy taxes on themselves to repay the loan.

All 40 voters who turned out approved the measure.

Once the loan is paid, the roads will become part of the county road system.

The commissioners, who sit as the directors of the road district, will discuss the cost of a hydrology study for the project.
