COPPERAS COVE — Fifty students brought 200 toys to fill 10 huge plastic bags for children who otherwise would not have Christmas presents.

Members of the Clements/Parsons Elementary School Kids Care Club handed off the toys Monday afternoon to the Marine Corps in Waco as part of the annual Toys for Tots drive.

“Having these kids donate these toys is a big boost for us,” Marine Sgt. Justin Hanush said. “This is the first time this school has participated and we are

so appreciative.”

Third-grader MaKayla Wells, 8, brought a necklace, earrings, princess bead set and a Mickey Mouse toy set to donate to the drive.

“Other kids don’t have a toy and I have a bunch,” said MaKayla, whose mother, Celina Wells, nodded in agreement.

“That’s what we are trying to teach her ... that she is fortunate.”

The toys are headed to Waco for distribution to families Dec. 19-21. Cove House is accepting applications through Wednesday from families who would like to receive toys for their children.
