COPPERAS COVE - A Copperas Cove teenager was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after holding a 7-Eleven Convenience Store employee at gunpoint Monday.

Brandon Michaelray Benson, 17, was arraigned Tuesday and bond was set at $100,000 by Coryell County Justice of the Peace John Guin.

Officers were dispatched to the store, in the 500 block of North First Street, at 9:21 p.m. Monday. A store clerk reported a male entered the store, allowed her to leave, but held another employee at gunpoint, according to a news release from the Copperas Cove Police Department.

Officers arrived and watched the store clerk being held inside the store at gunpoint by the male suspect. When officers tried to make contact with the suspect, he raised the handgun and pointed it at the store clerk in a threatening manner.

One officer fired at the suspect through a glass window. The suspect dropped his weapon and was taken into custody.

There were no injuries and only minor property damage was reported.
