A semitruck hauling beer snagged telephone lines about 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, creating a chain reaction that caused one car flip.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Fort Hood Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue, causing portions of the intersection of Fort Hood Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard to close while damaged cars and debris were removed.

One person was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

The semitruck was exiting a parking lot to head east on 761st Tank Battalion Avenue when its top snagged telephone lines. The tension of the wires snapped a telephone pole on the far side of Fort Hood Street. The top of the pole fell on the windshield of a pickup truck.

The wires then caught a sport utility vehicle on 761st Tank Battalion Avenue flipping the vehicle onto its roof. Law enforcement at the scene said the incident was “unusual.”
