Two Belton siblings are among three people facing federal and state charges following their arrests by the Bell County Organized Crime Unit, Commander Jerry Dugger said.

Amanda Jean Malicki, 26, and William Carl Malicki, 23, both of Belton, and Stephen Todd Anderson, 36, of Holland, are suspects in multiple crimes across Central Texas, including counterfeiting, mail theft, identity theft, forgery and narcotics offenses.

The three suspects remain behind bars and additional arrests are possible, Dugger said.

Investigators believe large mailboxes at apartment complexes across Bell County were broken into and the contents used to commit identity theft, Dugger said.

Also, forged checks and counterfeit bills were used to purchase items from people off Craigslist, including jewelry and a vehicle.

Dugger said the sellers were targeted because they were everyday people who typically are not trained to detect fake bills, as opposed to store clerks.

Ironically, he said, because they are trying to "go the extra mile to be prudent," the sellers demand cash.

"They get that cash, take it to the bank to deposit it and the bank informs them it's no good," he said.

Some people, however, did take checks for jewelry. Unfortunately, the checks were forged.

So far, agents have recovered counterfeit currency, a stolen vehicle and numerous checks and credit cards, and believe there are more than 30 victims - some of whom aren't even aware of it yet, Dugger said.

He described the case as a perfect example of the types of multi-jurisdictional crimes the unit investigates.

Offenses occurred in Killeen, Temple, Harker Heights, Belton and Georgetown.
