COPPERAS COVE — Classes went on as normal Monday after an anonymous spray-painter left a message on the wall of a car wash on Casa Street threatening a school shooting in the city.

The threat, which said, “I’m going to shoot up Copperas Cove High School on 3/20/17,” is currently being investigated by the police department. It was discovered last week.

CCISD spokeswoman Wendy Sledd said additional police were on and near campus Monday as a result of the threat. Students were searched when needed, Sledd added.

“We did see a decrease in student attendance at the high school, but that is common immediately following a holiday such as spring break. The incident did not affect overall attendance at schools across the district.” Sledd said.

Police were unavailable for comment. Officials have not said who originally left the message.
