Copperas Cove Police safely returned Jaelyn Gucciana Johnson to her grandparents Wednesday after arresting her mother in Killeen.

At 3:50 p.m., Copperas Cove police, U.S. Marshals and the Bell County Organized Crime Unit arrested Shemeka Denise Johnson in the 400 block of South Second Street in Killeen.

After her arrest, Johnson provided officers with an address where 2-year-old Jaelyn could be found.

Reported missing Tuesday, the child was recovered from a home in the 900 block of South Sixth Street at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday and “was unharmed and will be returned to the care of her grandparents,” a news release stated.

Jaelyn’s grandparents, who have legal custody, reported she was taken from their residence by Johnson on Aug. 5. On Aug. 8, Johnson refused to tell them where Jaelyn was.

The case is under investigation, and Johnson is in Bell County Jail awaiting charges.
