Killeen police on Tuesday arrested a suspect in a fatal stabbing that occurred over the weekend in Bartlett.

Police arrested 43-year-old Everett Tyrone Johnson about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 300 block of South 10th Street.

Johnson is wanted in the stabbing death of Joseph Lee Garza, 26, which occurred Sunday night in the small town, which is about 20 miles south of Belton.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said an anonymous tip led police to believe that Johnson was staying at a home in Killeen.

Police went to the residence, where officers found Johnson and arrested him without incident.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson killed Garza during a physical confrontation in front of Garza’s home in the 400 block of Lucy Street in Bartlett. Deputies received a call of a man lying in the roadway and found Garza dead at the scene.

Killeen police arrested Johnson, though he has been moved to Williamson County Jail.

Jail records indicate Johnson was arraigned on a charge of murder. His bail is set at $500,000.
