BELTON — Ronald Justin Grunst, 30, of Belton received a nine-year prison sentence Monday from District Judge Fancy Jezek after pleading guilty in 426th District Court to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.
In a written statement, Grunst confessed he assaulted the victim on at least two occasions, the first in the Belton Lake area last June and the second time in Temple in August.
Grunst made the written statement after a polygraph taken in September indicated he was not being truthful on one question.
Shelly Strimple, the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case, said she was pleased with the verdict. “We agreed to no more than 12 years and the judge assessed nine,” Strimple said. She also applauded the victim for her courage. “She came forward and told the truth. She told someone; that’s what kids need to do.”
Ryan Smith, who served as Grunst’s defense attorney, did not comment on the verdict.
