BELTON - Belton police are investigating a two-vehicle wreck Sunday night that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Houston woman and injured three other people, including a 13-year-old boy.
The deceased woman, identified as Samantha Egger Whetzel, is the wife of a Fort Hood soldier, Police Chief Gene Ellis said.
According to police reports, officers responded to the 2000 block of East Sixth Ave. at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 Nissan Altima, driven by Kendra West, 38, of Temple, crossed the center line while traveling west on East Sixth Avenue and struck a 2010 Nissan Sentra head-on.
The Sentra was being driven by Jessie Whetzel Jr., 22, of Fort Hood. His wife, who died at the scene, was the sole passenger in the car.
The 13-year-old was the only passenger in the Altima, the police chief said.
All of the injured were taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Ellis did not know the extent of their injuries.
Ellis said it initially does not appear alcohol was a factor. He also noted the location where the wreck occurred has been the scene of other serious accidents.
Investigators are expected to reconstruct the scene later this week, he said.
