A routine traffic stop in Killeen turned into a drug bust after one of the car’s passengers had cocaine, police said.

Police arrested Jason Ronald Dixon Jr., 23, and charged him with possession of cocaine, 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams, Thursday.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Dixon on Saturday, setting his bond at $35,000.

An arrest affidavit stated Dixon was sitting in the backseat of a car, when police pulled the car over for an unspecified traffic violation.

An officer saw that Dixon had not put on his seat belt and detained him. The officer then searched Dixon and found a box containing 16 rocks of a substance that field-tested positive as cocaine. The total amount of suspected drugs weighed more than 2 grams, the affidavit stated.
