LAMPASAS — City officials were surprised Monday when the architect for the fire station improvement project did not attend the meeting.

“You have in your packet the change order that was not submitted. ... I understand the architect was to be here, but he is not,” City Manager Finley deGraffenried told the council. “Right in the middle of the bays, the door is too small. The other option is to lift that beam up 12 inches to correct the defect. There is no explanation as to why the architect, or his designers, did not attend tonight’s meeting.”

Councilman Bradley Neely also voiced his dissatisfaction with the architect’s design process.

“With my experience, those are predesigned doors and they knew how big they were,” Neely said.

The council suggested the city withhold payment to the architect until members were satisfied with the design.

“I don’t think you can withhold payment, but I don’t feel comfortable that you recommend paying it,” deGraffenried said. “If you’d like, I can see what I can find out.”

The council took no action on the matter.

In other business, the city manager said Lampasas sales tax revenue was up slightly.

“We’re about 10 percent over the last year,” deGraffenried said.
