A bomb threat early Thursday caused shoppers to evacuate Killeen’s Kmart store.

According to officials, management ordered a store evacuation after a caller demanding ransom money said there was a bomb as well as two or three people with guns in the store to enforce the ransom.

The police did not elaborate on the ransom demands that were made.

At 5 p.m., police arrived at the store in the 1100 block of South Fort Hood Street and spent about an hour sweeping the building with a K-9 unit.

No bombs or weapons were found.

The same store, along with other buildings in the complex, was evacuated Dec. 3 because of a bomb threat, police said.

Thursday’s bomb threat is under investigation.
