COPPERAS COVE — Police arrested two people suspected of having several grams of methamphetamine after officers found an open alcohol container in their vehicle.
Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Scott Alan Formby and Jennifer Dawn Wieland on charges of possession of a controlled substance, more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams.
Both arraignments took place Monday, and their bonds were set at $8,000.
Police allegedly stopped a silver 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Wieland in the 300 block of West U.S. Highway 190 for having an expired temporary license plate, according to an arrest complaint.
An officer reportedly noticed an open bottle of liquor in the backseat of the vehicle. Police then searched Wieland and the passenger — Formby — and inventoried the items in the car, discovering 10 milligrams of hydrocodone, some marijuana and 6.3 grams of methamphetamine, the complaint stated.
In an unrelated incident, Price arraigned Enoch Bruton Caldwell Phillips II on Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger. Price set his bond at $3,000.
A witness allegedly reported Phillips stumbling to his car while at City Park, an arrest complaint stated. Police noticed the vehicle he left the park in on Farm-to-Market 116 and stopped it after the car failed to stop at a designated point at Georgetown Road and Highway Avenue.
Police officers said they smelled the odor of alcohol on Phillips’ breath and noticed there was a 5-year-old child in the vehicle.
The complaint stated Phillips performed poorly on several sobriety tests, but he refused to take a breath test.
