Two men are facing arson charges after investigators said they set multiple fires at a local nightclub.

William R. Twist, 34, of Killeen, and Spc. Jacob H. Lugmayer, 20, of Fort Hood, were arraigned Thursday on third-degree felony charges of arson in connection with multiple fires set Dec. 17 at Starlite Station on South Fort Hood Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that several fires were intentionally set within the building. The fires caused minor-to-moderate damage to the manager’s office and other locations within the facility, according to a statement from the Killeen Police Department.

Detectives from the Killeen Police Department and the Killeen Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fires were set to destroy evidence and video footage of a burglary from the club that occurred Dec. 3.

Twist, who worked at the club, told police he was across the street acting as a lookout for Lugmayer, who entered the building without permission, according to an arrest affidavit. Lugmayer told police he planned to take identification cards from the building.

He said he damaged a safe, cabinets, furniture and set the fires inside the club, the affidavit stated.

Fort Hood officials confirmed Thursday that Lugmayer is a specialist with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke set their bail at $50,000 each, and both men were still in jail Thursday afternoon.
