New information obtained by the Herald on Tuesday showed Harker Heights police arrested a Nolanville man last week even though the charges against him were dismissed a year ago.

Steven Gentry Ladig, 29, was arrested by Harker Heights police July 20 on a warrant for felony possession of child pornography out of Copperas Cove.

On Tuesday, Coryell County Attorney Dusty Boyd said the case, which began in 2005, was closed by his office. Boyd said the charges against Ladig were dropped in July 2013.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman and her daughter discovered a disc with pornographic images of young children while cleaning out an apartment shared by Ladig and a male roommate after the men moved out.

“There was a problem ... determining who had access to the images,” Boyd said.

He said the warrant against Ladig must not have been withdrawn after the charges were dropped.

Records showed Copperas Cove police confirmed the warrant was active when Ladig was arraigned shortly after his July 20 arrest. He was transported from Bell County Jail to Coryell County Jail before he was released.
