COPPERAS COVE - Police arrested a Copperas Cove man suspected of leaving children at 7-Eleven about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Rodney Bruce James Jr., 28, Sunday on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return. Price set his bond at $8,000 and James was not in Coryell County Jail as of Thursday.

According to an arrest affidavit, police received a call at 3:07 a.m. Sunday that two children were left by a man at the 7-Eleven in the 500 block of North First Street.

A witness told police that James walked into the store about 3 a.m., leaving the children outside, then went to the back of the store to use the bathroom. When he exited the bathroom, he left the store and walked away, leaving the children in front of the building.

The police also interviewed the two children, ages 6 and 10, and they told officers that James left them at the 7-Eleven after purchasing some beer. The children's mother picked them up before police arrived.

According to a police report, Copperas Cove police also cited James June 5 for public intoxication.

Price also arraigned:

Juan Martin Flores, 47, of Temple, on June 2 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams. Price set Flores' bond at $8,000.

Alvin Lee Eaglin, 31, of Copperas Cove, on June 2 on a charge of theft by check more than $1,500 but less than $20,000. Price set Eaglin's bond at $8,000.
