COPPERAS COVE — Police in Copperas Cove arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of having a stolen firearm and drugs.
Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Jonathan Shawnallen Holmes on Saturday on charges of theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor charges. Price set his bond at $75,000. Officers said they discovered the items after pulling over his vehicle for stopping in a crosswalk.
About 11 p.m. Friday, police noticed Holmes’ vehicle fail to stop in the designated area in the 400 block of Veterans Avenue. It stopped beyond a crosswalk, the arrest affidavit stated.
As officers conducted the traffic stop, Holmes reportedly consented to a search of himself and his vehicle, the affidavit stated. Police allegedly discovered a crystalline substance, identified as methamphetamine, in Holmes’ cigarette package. They also said they discovered eight pills of Tramadol, a prescription drug.
Under the driver’s seat of the vehicle, officers reportedly found a black Taurus 9 mm P809 handgun.
The gun was reported stolen. The methamphetamine weighed 0.2 grams with packaging, the affidavit stated.
In an unrelated incident, Price arraigned Deborah Louise Janssen on Monday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Price set her bond at $15,000.
Janssen was reportedly carrying methamphetamine that weighed 0.6 grams, an arrest affidavit stated.
