COPPERAS COVE — A man accused in October of repeatedly burning a 12-month-old baby with a hair dryer was arrested on Christmas Eve and is now free on $15,000 bond.

On Dec. 24, Justice of the Peace John Guinn arraigned Jagdesh Uttandi on a charge of injury to a child, which is a third-degree felony.

The abuse allegedly occurred Oct. 20 when the child’s mother brought the infant to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple with burns on his buttocks.

Social Services was notified and the child’s mother was interviewed Oct. 21.

She said she noticed the semi-circular burns when she changed the baby’s diaper, reports stated.

She said she left the child in the care of Uttandi the night before while she went to work, according to the affidavit.

On Oct. 24, Uttandi allegedly told Social Services that he did use a hair dryer to dry the baby’s hair, but did not injure the child in any way. Social Services matched the pattern of the burn to the end of the blow dryer, records stated.

A warrant was issued for Uttandi’s arrest, which occurred Tuesday.
